Sorokow, Anton (30th September 1978-Present)

Violinist from Moscow who started playing when he was four years old under the tutelage of his mom.  He attended the Central Music School and the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts and studied with Dora Schwarzberg and Evgenia Tchugaeva.

Groups with whom he has worked include the Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie, the Berlin Symphoniker, the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, Janacek Philharmonia Ostrava, the Johann Strauss Ensemble, the Johann Strauss Orchester Wien, the Karntner Symphony Orchestra, the Kharkov Symphony Orchestra, the Montpellier Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, the Nuremberg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia, the St. Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra, the Sung-nam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Boys Choir, the Vienna Classical Players, Vienna Concert-Verein and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.

In January 1999, he performed the “Violin Concerto” of Alexander Glazunov in the Grand Hall at the Moscow Conservatory.

He served as first concertmaster for the Nuremberg Philharmonic Orchestra from 2003 to 2005.  In 2005, he took up the same post with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.

On 12th December 2008, he gave the world premiere of Werner Steinmetz’s “Violin Concerto” at Brahms Hall with Vienna Concert-Verein.

He interpreted Felix Mendelssohn’s “Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in E minor, Op. 64” with the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra at Kultuzentrum Karmeliterkirche on 6th November 2010.

In April 2012, he performed “Gypsy Airs” by Pablo de Sarasate as part of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra’s Easter concert in the Golden Hall at Musikverein Vienna.

Recordings on which he appears include:  Favorite Violin Encores with Maria Teterina; 15 Violin Miniature EncoresIgnaz Joseph Pleyel, Vol. 4:  Grande Concert; and, Six Tales of Time with the Vienna Boys Choir.

In the field of music education, he has given master classes and taught at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and the Vienna Conservatory’s Private University.
