Taylor, David (1949-Present)

He is a violinist born in canton, Ohio who started to study the violin with his father when he was 4 years old which led to him attending the Cleveland Institute of Music before earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Juilliard School.

In 1974 he became a first violinist with the Cleveland Orchestra and later moved on to become Assistant Concertmaster with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1979.

Alongside his work with the CSO he has been concertmaster with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and acting concertmaster with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra.  During the 2014/15 season he was the concertmaster of the ArsViva Symphony Orchestra.

As a chamber musician he has worked as a recitalist and soloist in the Chicago area and with the Pressenda Trio.

In the recording studio he has performed on albums that include Corigliano – Symphony No. 1, Wagner – Overtures and Preludes and Brahms – Violin Concerto/Sonata No. 3 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Come On Up by Brian Culbertson.

In the field of musical education he has been on the faculties of the Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts, the New Music School  and the Moody Bible Institute and has coached orchestral violinists in Japan and the United States.

He is married to the violinist Michelle Wynton and has a daughter, Sarah.  He was diagnosed with prostate cancer around 2009 and has gone on to beat the disease.
