Timmerman, Frank

He is a tenor, choral director and teacher who studied at the New England Conservatory of Music and Valdosta State University, Georgia.  His apprenticeships included working with the Atlanta, Central City, Colorado, and Santa Fe opera companies and he received fellowships to train at the Brevard Music Center and Tanglewood.

As a soloist and ensemble member he has worked on a national and international level with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra & Chorus since 1989, as well as with the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers.  He has appeared in many recitals and concerts including that of Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s “Great Mass in C Minor”, “Requiem” and The Magic Flute, Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance and H.M.S. Pinafore.

Taking part in several competitions, he has been a finalist in Alabama’s Mobile and Birmingham Opera Competitions and the National Association of Teachers of Singing Artists Awards.

Recordings he can be heard on include the cast recording of StarChild, An American SamplerAntiphonica and Deep River by the Atlanta Singers and Angels on High: A Robert Shaw Christmas and Songs of Angels: Christmas Hymns & Carols with the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers.

His work as a choral director for choirs performing with the Atlanta Youth Symphony Orchestra have seen him working in events taking place in Georgia and internationally, where he appeared in Westminster Abbey, London.

In the world of musical education he has been on the faculties of Columbus State University, Kennesaw State University and has been the Director of Performing Arts at Pebblebrook High School’s Cobb County Center for Excellence in Performing Arts in Georgia since 1993.
