He is a clarinettist who started his musical studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria in 1980.
Although still continuing his studies until he graduated in 1988, he was performing as a solo clarinettist with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra by 1985. He took further education by doing an in-depth examination of the wind compositions by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and writing a thesis for his Master’s degree in 1991.
He ventured into the world of musical education as a teacher in 1996 and has since been on the faculty of the Vienna Conservatory. He has also held countless national and international master classes and been a jurist at many clarinet competitions.
Ten years later he travelled to the UK and US to extensively study the history and performance of the clarinet with respected teachers in 2001.
Outside of his work with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra he is an active chamber musician and has performed as a member of the Johann Strauss Ensemble of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Chamber Musicians. He has also played with several ensembles including Counterpoint, The Haydn Trio, Artis Quadratt Wien and Trio Clarin.
He has appeared on several recordings such as Zemlinsky/Schoenberg by Artis Quadratt Wien and Michael Haydn: Concerto in D Major for 2 Trombones and Orchestra and Dirk D’Ase: Songs of a Redeeming Trumpet by the Wiener Concert-Verein.
