Wu Yuxia

She is a pipa player and music educator born in Shanghai, China who studied the pipa, sometimes called the Chinese lute, from the time she was a child.  In 1977 she went from Shanghai to study in Beijing at the Folk Music Department of the Central Conservatory of Music, the Beijing Dance Academy and Peking University’s Art Department.

Working as a soloist since the 1980s she has performed at numerous events on a national and international level, where she has performed in hundreds of lectures and solo concerts.  She has also performed as member of the Central Orchestra of China and with the China Philharmonic Orchestra and performed many concerto, ensemble and orchestral works.

As a recording artist she has released the solo works Yu Ming Oriental, Wu Xuxia Pipa and Ode to Mountain Changhai and several others along with Dragon Songs by Lang Lang and Classic of Chinese Music by various artists.

She has published many works including My Pipa Journey, My Stage – The Player’s Touch Points and Standing Points and Dance on the Fingertips along with numerous others.

In the field of musical education she has been President of the Chinese National Orchestra Society, a doctoral tutor and member of the Creative Committee of the China Academy of Arts.  She has also been a Director of the Chinese Musicians Association and Deputy Director of the Social Music Committee.
