Wyrczynski, Stephen

He is a violist and teacher who started studying the violin when he was 8 years old and at 16 changed to the viola.  He took further viola studies from 1983 followed by the Peabody Conservatory, where he also became Karen Tuttle’s teaching assistant.  He went on to study at the Juilliard School, receiving his bachelor of music degree in 1988 and later earned a diploma at the Curtis Institute of Music in 1991.

He became a member of The Philadelphia Orchestra in 1992 and remained with them for 18 years until 2010.   He also performed as a chamber musician with several acclaimed musicians and has played at music festivals that include Aspen Festival, the Grand Teton Music Festival, Kingston Music Festival and Tanglewood along with many others.

Recordings he has performed on include Peter Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6/Dumka by The Philadelphia Orchestra.

In the field of musical education he has held the position of Professor of Music at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University since 2010 and performs with other members of the faculty as well as on faculty-student collaborations.   He has also been on the faculty of the Aspen Music Festival and School and taught at Curtis Institute of Music, Mannes College of Music, national Orchestral Institute, the New World Symphony, and the New York State Summer School for Orchestral Studies.  He has also held masterclasses.
