Addison, John Mervin (16th March 1920-7th December 1998)

He was a composer born in Cobham, Surrey, England who was sometimes known as Jock Addison.

He was a soldier in XXX Corps, the British tank force that drove north through Holland during Operation Market Garden commencing 17th September 1944.  As a tribute to his fellow tankers of XXX Corps he wrote the music-score for A Bridge Too Far, for which he won a BAFTA award. He also won an Oscar and a Grammy for his score for Tom Jones and he won 6 Emmys for Murder, She Wrote from 1988-1995.  Other scores he worked on included Sleuth, A Taste of Honey and Reach for the Sky.

He died on 7th December 1998 in Vermont, USA, of a stroke.
