Farres Osvaldo (13th January 1902-22nd December 1985)

He is a composer/songwriter born Fernando Gumersindo ne Farres Vazquez in Quemado de Guines, Cuba, who hosted the popular show “Bar Melodico de Osvaldo Farres” which aired on Cuban radio for 13 years.

His most famous song is possibly “Quizas, Quizas, Quizas” aka “Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps” and was recorded by artists including Nat King Cole and Doris Day.  His other songs include “Acercate Mas” and “Madrecita”, which he wrote honouring his mother, is often sung on Mother’s Day in Latin America.

His music has also appeared in many movies including “Brokeback Mountain”, “Buena Vista Social Club” and “Bad Education”.  The Puerto Rican trumpeter, Julius Menendez, is the father of Osvaldo Farres’ great grandson.

He left Cuba in 1962 and remained in the US in exile until his death.
