BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra

This orchestra was founded buy the conductor and composer, Ian Whyte, in 1935.  It supports the BBC Symphony Orchestra, at home and abroad, and regularly performs at the Edinburgh and Cheltenham festivals and the Proms.  It regularly tours the smaller towns as well as the cities of Scotland and has made many recordings of its performances.

The conductors over the years have included Jerzy Maksymiuk, Christopher Seaman, Karl Anton Rickenbacher, and the current Chief Conductor, Ilan Volkov.

After having to leave their home at the Glasgow City Hall while it was refurbished and restored over a period of several years, they returned their in 2006.
