Feel Like a Number

(Bob Seger)

Bob Seger’s blue-collar anthem about the individual’s loss of identity in corporate America originally appeared on his 1978’s Stranger in Town, and was released as the B side to “Still the Same”, but it was the live version on 1981’s Nine Tonight that was released as a single in its own right, backed by “Hollywood Nights”.

It peaked at #19 in Canada and #48 in the U.S. and appeared again on Bob Seger’s Greatest Hits in 1994, as well as in a number of films, including Aspen Extreme, Body Heat, and Striking Distance.

Seger himself admitted that he wrote the song too high for himself, that “Feel Like a Number” is in the top eschelon of his vocal range.
