First Day of Spring, The

(Leroy Anderson)

Written in the same year as Leroy Anderson’s “Piano Concert in C”, this piece was composed in 1954 at Woodbury, Connecticut. It has been described as “a sweeping melody with lush strings and a pastoral oboe” but is not played as often as some of his other popular songs.
