I Hate the Way I Love It

(Ava Aldridge)

Soulful ballad written by Ava Aldridge about an adulterous affair between two people who are best friends with each other’s respective spouses.  It was originally recorded by George Soule and Ava Aldridge and released as a promo in 1978 and in October 1979, Charly McClain and Johnny Rodriguez released a version that eventually peaked at #16 on the Billboard country chart.  It appears on several McClain albums, including Anthology, Encore, Portfolio, and, originally, on 1980’s Women Get Lonely, and can also be found on Johnny Rodriguez’s Biggest Hits, released in 1982.
