(Vasily Andreyev)
Vasily Andreyev wrote this song for his balalaika orchestra sometime after it was formed in 1888. The song is a variation on the Russian folk tune “Svetit Mesyits” (The Moon is Shining Brightly) and such was the popularity of the piece that Michail Bulgakov referred to it in his book “The Heart of a Dog”.
