Invitation Waltz (from Ring Round the Moon)

(Richard Addinsell)

Richard Addinsell composed this for the 1950 Christopher Fry adaptation Ring Round the Moon, originally written by the French playwright, Jean Anouilh, as L’Invitation au Chateau and staged in 1947.  The production was directed by Peter Brook and is the story of twin heroes who were played by Paul Schofield.  The waltz has also been recorded by Sidney Torch and Robert Farnon who did their own orchestrations, but the original music has been lost which is thought to have happened in the 1960s Chappell’s fire.
