Jive Talkin’

(Barry Gibb/Maurice Gibb/Robin Gibb)

This song written by the Bee Gees was recorded in Miami in 1975 and reached No.1 in the US and No. 5 in the UK.  It was originally called “Drive Talkin'” and the rhythm of the song was modeled after the sound a car would make crossing the bridge over Biscayne Bay into Miami.  The producer, Arif Mardin, suggested the name change.  The word “jive” was used as a reference to mean “lying”.

When it was released to the radio stations it was done without giving any indication of the song title or who sang it.  It sold over one million copies in the US alone and it appears on the Bee Gee’s 1975 album Main Course .
