The song written by James Mtume when Mtume’s singer Tawathee Agee was on tour with Roxy Music and when the other members had gone home. He called them back and they completed it at 2.00am that morning after 2 hours work and flew Tawatha Agee back to record the lyrics, with her singing them as James Mtume was writing them.
It was recorded in 1983 and reached No. 34 in the UK as well as No.1 on the US Billboard R&B singles chart.
Several artists including Notorious B.I.G. for his 1994 hit “Juicy” have sampled it.
