Mad Man Moon

(Tony Banks)

The words and music of this song were written by the multi-musician Tony Banks who was a member of the group Genesis.  The song was recorded by them for inclusion on their 1976 album A Trick of the Tail.

It has been written that it was never performed by the group live due to the complexity of the piano solo that is in the middle of the song.

The same notes that start this song are the ending for “It’s Yourself” which was released as the B-Side to “Ripples” even though it was eventually scrapped for the album.

The song has been covered by the pianist Renato Britta Costa and there is now a Genesis tribute band called Mad Men Moon.
