Never Dreamed You’d Leave in Summer

(Stevie Wonder/Syreeta Wright)

Song written by Stevie Wonder and Syreeta Wright in 1971 and first featured on Stevie Wonder’s album Where I’m Coming From.  It’s a ballad that describes a failed relationship using a changing season metaphor.  It was released initially as the B-Side of Stevie Wonder’s “We Can Work It Out” which went to No. 78 on the Billboard Hot 100.

It has been remade by Three Dog Night and Joan Baez includes it on her 1975 Diamonds and Rust album.
