She’s a Friend of a Friend

(John Beland/Gib Guilbeau)

Song by John Beland and Gib Guilbeau which was recorded by The Burrito Brothers.  The singer is addressing a fellow regular at The Palomino who is making eyes at his girlfriend/wife, and he’s pretty much telling him in no uncertain terms to back off.

This was a #67 hit on the Billboard Country Top 100 for The Burrito Brothers.  It was backed by a cover of Don Gibson’s “Oh Lonesome Me” and was the second track on the 1981 album, Hearts on the Line.

On 12th September 1986, it was one of a handful of songs performed by The Burrito Brothers in a tribute to Gram Parsons, an original member, in Nashville, Tennessee.  The song has since appeared on just about every (Flying) Burrito Brothers greatest-hits package, including Best of, Coast to Coast, and In Concert.
