Too Much, Too Little, Too Late

(Nat Kipner/John Vallins)

This song written by Nat Kipner and John Vallins was one of several duets sung by Johnny Mathis and Deniece Williams between 1976 and 1978 and released on the album You Light Up My Life.

In June 1978 it knocked Wings of the top spot with their “With a Little Luck” when it shot to No.1 on the Billboard chart and it would also reach No.3 in the UK.

The composers of this song were both Australian and had been long associated with the Bee Gees, and curiously enough the B-Side of this single is “Emotions” that was written by Barry and Robin Gibb.

The song would be re-released in 1995 on a further Mathis/Williams duets compilation album entitled Too Much, Too Little, Too Late and the British band Silver Sun released a version of the song in 1998 which was their biggest hit, which they said was recorded as a joke, but they have since disowned.
