When I Was a Freeport and You Were the Main Drag

(Laura Nyro)

Song written by Laura Nyro which was originally released in January 1971 and backed with “Been on a Train”.  It appeared on Laura Nyro’s Christmas and the Beads of Sweat, co-produced by Rascals’ front man Felix Cavaliere, in 1970.  It has since been included on Season of Lights, Laura Nyro in Concert, Stoned Soul Picnic:  The Best of Laura Nyro, and Time and Love:  The Essential Masters.

The Dee Rossello version on White Dove curiously curtails the title, erasing the “When” and dividing ” Freeport” into two words.
