Colombo, Carlo

He is a bassoonist born in Padua, Italy. He studied in Geneva, Milan and Amsterdam and became Principal Bassoon  for I Solisti Veneti from 1978 to 1981.

He has played bassoon with the Orchestra of the National Opera of Lyon since it was formed in 1983 and has also performed with Ensemble Matheus, NDR Orchestra in Hamburg, Orchestre de Paris and the Orchestra del Teatro all Scala among many others.  He went on to perform with the Orchestre Revolutionnaire et Romantique under the leadership of Sir John Gardiner which allowed him to concentrate on his interest in period instruments.

In musical education he became a member of the faculty of the Lyons Conservatoire in 2001 and the Lausanne Conservatory in 2005.  He has also been a guest professor at the Oberlin Conservatory and Indiana University.
