Fataar, Ricky (5th September 1952-Present)

He is a drummer born in Durban, South Africa, who started playing music with his older brothers when he was 9 years old.

He was formerly part of The Flames along with Blondie Chaplin .  They moved from South Africa to London and then to Los Angeles where they made an album for The Beach Boy’s record label, Brother, in 1970.  He became a drummer for the Beach Boys and was with them from 1972 until 1976.

After a request by Eric Idle he starred in The Rutles: All You Need is Cash where he played Stig O’Hara, the band’s guitarist (“the quiet one”) which appeared on Saturday Night Live.  He and Eric Idle also recorded the single “Mr. Sheene/Ging Gang Goolie” as Dirk & Stig.  He was also a member of Bonny Raitt’s backup band.

He emigrated to Australia where he played on and co-produced albums with Tim Finn for Crowded House.  He has also worked with many artists as a drummer as well as producing music for many TV and film scores including The Coca Cola Kid and High Tide .
